Samsung has unveiled the world’s first solar-powered fully touch screen phone. Made from recycled plastic water bottles, the ‘Blue Earth’ mobile is charged with a solar panel on the back. The company claims this provides enough electricity to make a call ‘anytime, anywhere’.

The screen brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth can be set to an energy-efficient mode with one click. The handset also has an ‘eco walk’ function that counts the user’s steps with an in-built pedometer. It then calculates how much CO2 emissions have been reduced (and therefore how many trees have been saved) by walking rather than driving.
